Richard J. Harknett, Chair of the University Faculty, is an Associate Professor of International Relations in the Department of Political Science at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio/USA. He received a BA cum laude in Political Science at Villanova University, as well as an MA in Political Science, awarded March 1989, and a PhD in Political Science, awarded May 1991, at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. He helped develop and then chair the Charles Phelps Taft Research Center. One of his areas of expertise is the American government with emphasis on American national security and foreign policy-making. His publications and research interests focus on international relations theory and international security studies. Richard J. Harknett is content author and designer of International Relations WebSource and The Fate of Melos (1999), author of Lenses of Analysis (2001) and editor of The Absolute Weapon Revisited (2000).
 
Latest grants include “The New Security Era & the Public Sphere: Liberal Democracy, Security, and Intelligence” submitted to the ESRC through colleagues at the University of Leicester, United Kingdom (2010) and a publication subvention for on-line non-subscription release of “Leaving Deterrence Behind: Warfighting and National Cybersecurity”, Charles P. Taft Research Center (2010).
 
Latest honours and awards were: University System of Ohio Faculty Innovator Award, Ohio Board of Regents (2010), State Senate of Ohio Resolution No. 248 in Recognition of Faculty Innovator Award (2010).
