Europe on the Move. Societies, Values and Women’s Rights in Transition
International Scientific Symposium in the course of the 24th Festival of European Culture in Karlsruhe “Radical Awakenings; Upheavals: Equal Rights for All”
4-5 May 2018
In the last 100 years, civil society has significantly changed, especially in the wake of revolutions, evolutions and globalisation – worldwide it finds itself confronted with new challenges. What impact did revolutionary and evolutionary ideas have on politics and on social emancipation and what impact will it probably have in the future? Which interdependencies arise for the European legal culture through immigration and integration, diaspora and parallel worlds? What social, cultural, and political barriers prevent the equal participation of women?
The public scientific symposium of the ZAK addresses these and further questions as a closing event of the 24th Festival of European Culture in Karlsruhe “Radical Awakenings; Upheavals: Equal Rights for All” from 4 to 5 May 2018.
Throughout the symposium, international experts of various disciplines will focus on implications of revolutions and new political movements on societies. As a constant theme, they will discuss women’s rights and their unsatisfactory realisation. In short lectures the speakers will discuss active and passive roles of women within social upheavals and their shaping role in them. The two-day public science event looks into the subject from different perspectives. The ZAK invites guests to engage in discussions of these current questions.
