Suat Kınıklıoğlu is executive director of the Ankara-based Center for Strategic Communication (STRATIM). He is currently researching as a senior fellow at the Institute for Security and Development Policy in Stockholm. Kınıklıoğlu holds a BSc from the Turkish Air Force Academy, a BA in political science from Carleton University, Ottawa, and a master’s degree in International Relations from Bilkent University, Ankara. He served in the Turkish Parliament from 2007 to 2011, where he was chairman of the Turkey-US Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group and spokesman of the Parliament’s foreign affairs committee. He also served as deputy chairman of external affairs of the Justice and Development Party (AKP). In 2012 he parted ways with the AKP and managed the election campaign of the mayoral candidate of the Republican People’s Party Ankara, Mansur Yavaş, in 2014. The following year, Kınıklıoğlu became a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress in Washington, D.C., and at the Institute of Politics at the University of Chicago.
Kınıklıoğlu wrote columns for Radikal Daily and Turkish Daily News. Prior to his political career, he was founding director of the Ankara office of the German Marshall Fund of the United States, Turkey and Caucasus representative of the Canadian International Development Agency, and he served as liaison officer in the Turkish Air Force.
