Ece Temelkuran, born 1973 in Izmir, is one of Turkey’s best known novelists and political commentators. She has lived in many countries across the Middle East and North Africa, including Lebanon and Tunisia, while writing her novels set in the area.
Her investigative journalism tackles subjects that are highly controversial in Turkey, such as Kurdish and Armenian issues and the freedom of expression. Her work has been published widely, for example in the Guardian, the New Statesman, the New Left Review and Le Monde Diplomatique, and she has won numerous awards. She has been named the most read female writer and one of the most influential persons in social media several times. She has served as a visiting fellow at the University of Oxford’s Saint Antony’s College and recently gave the Freedom Lecture as a guest of Amnesty International and Prince Claus Foundation. Temelkuran’s novels have been translated into many languages and published across the world.
