About Us

The Interdisciplinary Centre for Digital Tradition - CODIGT (formerly "Karlsruhe centre of cultural tradition - digital ") the offices of which are located at ZAK, is co-funded by KIT, ZKM - Centre for Art and Media Karlsruhe - and the University of Arts and Design Karlsruhe (HfG).

CODIGT is dedicated to the task of contributing to the preservation of digital cultural heritage and various types of science and research data. CODIGT develops and answers questions about digitizing culture and the contextualization of digital objects within the framework of project-oriented basic research and transdisciplinary knowledge transfer. It aims to tackle issues of digital preservation (DP) as well as access to these archived objects.

This field of research involves the consideration of legal and cultural frameworks as well as the need to process complex data in memory and research institutions. CODIGT also does research and work on the process of obtaining preservable material and the need for availability, requiring standardized procedures and coordinated solutions customized toward the needs and requirements of individual organizations.

Areas of responsibility

CODIGT is a research and service institution for digital preservation (DP) of complex digital objects. Our goal is to provide specific support for our partners in dealing with complex digital objects, which must remain traceable, accessible and usable at all times. With the accompaniment of type-specific consulting services, conceptual approaches for individual institutions are developed .
