City Conversations 2015

On the occasion of the 300^th anniversary of Karlsruhe, ZAK organised eight of the thirteen “City Conversations”, which took place in the large festival pavilion in the castle garden. Topics that have concerned Karlsruhe and its citizens in the past and in the present were selected for discussion: religion and atheism, escape, innovation, ecology, diversity and visions are just a few keywords that were discussed on the panels and with a large citizen audience. The conversations always drew both on the historical development and modern characteristics of Karlsruhe. Future impacts of science and societal change at the local level were a particular feature of the conversations. Renowned guests from politics, economy, culture, civil society and science brought different perspectives and experiences to Karlsruhe. Video feeds introduced the panel guests and the topics and led through the series of events. The discussions were always multidisciplinary, intercultural and controversial.

City Conversations 2017

What kind of home does the city offer to locals and to newcomers? This is one of the questions covered by the “City Conversations” 2017.  As a contribution to the Baden-Württemberg Heimattage in Karlsruhe, ZAK organised a series of panel discussions that focused on the conception and meaning of ‘home’. Leading personalities from the city, industry, culture, politics, and science discussed urban living in Karlsruhe as well as the concept of a global and cosmopolitan home, a home characterised by digital technology and finally a virtual home. The City Conversations took place from 10 – 31 May 2017 in the Lichthof of the Badische Gemeinde-Versicherungs-Verband (BGV).
