Prof. Dr. Caroline Y. Robertson-von Trotha

Prof. Dr. Caroline Y. Robertson‐von Trotha, born in 1951, studied sociology, philosophy, and history in Heidelberg and Karlsruhe. She finalized her doctoral dissertation in 1990 on the topic ‘Ethnic Identity and Political Mobilisation’ and habilitated at the Universität Karlsruhe (now Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, KIT) in the year 2004. Robertson-von Trotha is director of the ZAK | Centre for Cultural and General Studies at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany, and professor of sociology and cultural studies. Her research focuses on cultural change and globalisation, multiculturalism and integration policy, as well as theory and practice of public science. She is coordinator of the German network of the Anna Lindh Foundation, member of the Culture Committee of the German UNESCO Commission, chairwoman of the Academic Council for Culture and Foreign Policy (WIKA) at the Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations (ifa), and member of the ifa’s Research Advisory Board as well as member of the Small Convent (scientific advisory board) of the Schader Foundation since 2017. In addition, Robertson-von Trotha is editor of three scientific book series, and scientific convenor of the Karlsruhe Dialogues, an annual international symposium dedicated to current cultural issues.
